I think we can all agree that poison ivy is one of the more unfortunate plants to run into. There are many different ways to manage, but not many to completely eliminate it. The plant can root up to
a foot down in the ground and spreads far, creating more root systems. We have poison ivy on our property and are trying many different methods to manage it and have done one to completely remove it.
To manage it we made a solution in a 2 gallon garden sprayer. The solution consisted of 2 gallons of white vinegar and 4 cups of salt. After you finely mix the solution, add half a cup of dish soap. This will help it adhere to the plant. This helps keep the ivy in check, but for us has not eliminated it.
We had one location where completely eliminating it was a requirement, by our front door. To do this we needed up digging up the ground 10 feet around where we saw the ivy while being careful around the plants we wanted to keep. When doing this make sure you are wearing thick rubber gloves and have all parts of your skin covered. be sure not to burn the ivy as the oil will vaporize in the air and can get into your lungs.
